About Us

We are a brand new Community Choir based in Forest Gate, London E7. We welcome everybody, regardless of musical background. The only thing we ask for is a love of singing. We sing a wide variety of music, from classical and folk to jazz and musical theatre, so we can promise there'll be something for everyone. We rehearse every Wednesday evening from 7-8:30pm at St. Saviour's Church, MacDonald Road, London E7 0HE. We often meet outside of these times to socialise as a community, and our rehearsals are always followed by a trip to the nearest pub - not compulsory but all are welcome! Our Musical Director is Seb Marshall, a professional conductor of choirs and orchestras of all ages. He is currently also the Musical Director of the Portobello Symphony Orchestra and the Woodford Symphony Orchestra.

FAQs

I'd love to come but I can't sing! What should I do?Everyone can sing! You don't need to be trained singer, you just need to love singing. Enjoy singing in the shower? Or at karaoke? You'll fit right in.Do I need to have sung in a choir before?Absolutely not. Many of our members had never sung in front of anyone before joining.Do I need to be able to read music? We do use sheet music, so you'll find it easier and pick things up quicker if you have a basic understanding. However, we also provide audio learning tracks for every song, and many our members cannot read music at all. We cater for everybody. Will there be any auditions?Absolutely not. If you're not sure what voice part you sing, the Musical Director would be very happy to give you a simple range test, but this is completely optional, and nobody will ever be asked to sing by themselves if they don't want to.Do you meet every Wednesday?Almost! We approximately follow the school term dates, including taking time off for half term and the Easter, Summer, and Christmas holidays. See Term Dates for more information.I'd love to come and try it out but I can't make the Taster Session. Can I come another time?Absolutely! You're welcome to come along any time. The Taster Sessions will be specifically geared towards welcoming new people, and if you come too late in the term you might struggle to keep up with those who have been there since week 1. But we always welcome visitors, no matter where we are in the term. Are there costs involved?Taster Sessions are always free. We do have to pay to hire our rehearsal venue, source music, pay our professional conductor, and other miscellaneous costs, and so we normally charge £80 per member per term to cover these. However, we believe everyone should be able to make music regardless of economic background, and we never want cost to be a barrier to any of our members. If you'd like to join but don't think you can afford it, please talk to us.
